The small port of Splitska

Description of the surroundings

The beautiful island of Brac is 40 km long and up to 10 km wide and with 395 square kilometers it is the largest Dalmatian island. The Mediterranean climate lets the almond tree bloom in February and the pleasant temperatures allow bathing up until October. Brac is one of the sunniest regions on the Adriatic Sea with over 2700 hours of sun.

Each of the over twenty towns has its own charm and their history is just as diverse as their landscapes.

All of the small and large settlements are connected by well constructed roads; two coastal towns have daily ship connections to Split or other places on the mainland which is only 7 miles away.

The water is crystal clear, wonderfully clean and invites you to many activities. Swimming, snorkeling, learning to scuba dive, surfing, boat trips around the island or to the mainland and rafting tours.

Culturally interested people can choose from a number of landmarks

Apart from visiting the many parish churches and cloisters you should also see: the Dragon Cave near Murvica, the old Christian basilica in Povlja, the parish church from 1566 in Pucisca, the BLACA hermitage, which you can reach after a one hour march or the Heracles from Roman times carved into stone near Splitska.

The town of Pucisca is also interesting, which looks back on centuries of stonemason art and tradition. The “white stone of Brac” is obtained from the quarries here and was used, amongst other things, for the Diocletian Palace in Split, the Parliament Building in Berlin, the Parliament in Vienna and partially in the White House in Washington.

Supetar – the lively island capital with about 2500 inhabitants – is the arrival town when you take the car ferry from Split, the crossing takes about an hour.

Supetar offers all important contact points such as a post office, banks, shops, a gas station, a pharmacy, a hospital, a weekly market, souvenir shops, cafes and a lot of nightlife. There are tennis courts, car and bike rentals and also boat rentals.

The next town is the small village of Splitska, not yet touched by tourism and in a romantic location. At the harbor (400 m away from the PANORAMA) there is a small supermarket where you can buy your bread in the morning. There are no hotel complexes here or disturbing discos.

After another 5 minutes by car, you will reach the town of Postira (population ca. 1500). This is a town which has stayed original with much lively commotion around the harbor. The romantic settlement is surrounded by tangerine plantations, palm trees and blooming oleander plants. Postira offers a bit more action than its neighbor Splitska due to its size, but you still will not find any large and impersonal hotel complexes here. The sand beach LOVRECINA is only a few kilometers away from here, especially children appreciate this cove since it stays very shallow for about 25 meters into the sea.
